This year's edition of the Special Olympics World Games kicked off over the weekend in Los Angeles with huge fanfare as America's First Lady, Michelle Obama, was on hand to welcome thousands of intellectually disabled athletes.
About 6,500 athletes traveled to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from 165 countries to take part in the competition and they will participate in 25 sports during the 9 day competition.
Asides the spectacular fireworks, there was also a video from President Barack Obama who is currently in Africa and he encouraged the athletes by saying they represent the very best of the human spirit.
Meanwhile the legendary Stevie Wonder was also present at the event and gave a thrilling performance.
