Happy Mothers Day To All Mother Figures

Today is the first Mothers Day of the year and the next one comes up on the 2nd Sunday of May and before you start wondering why, let me just tell you it is because the UK and America celebrate on separate days.

Mothering Sunday, sometimes known as Mother's Day, is held on the 4th Sunday of Lent and is usually 3 weeks before Easter Sunday and often falls in the second half of March or early April.(remember it was 30th of March last year)

Originally, it was a day to visit your mother church but has now turned into an occasion to celebrate your mother and give her gifts. The Mother church was usually one where people attended church as children and on Mothering Sundays they were supposed to return to worship there.

However, gradually it turned into appreciating and celebrating mothers. It is important to note that mother figures, such as grandmothers, stepmothers and mothers-in-law are also celebrated on this day.

Nowadays people celebrate their mothers by giving cards, gifts, cakes, flowers, chocolates, jewelry, among others but for those that don’t want to give physical gifts you can come up with something creative as long as it is geared towards showing appreciation for your mother.

I know so many men that even get all mushy when it comes to their mothers.....So to all the mother figures I know and those of you that read this blog, I say HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!!
