Imagine buying a car, feeling like you have arrived and suddenly that car gets recalled by the manufacturers as having a factory defect?
According to reports from This Day newspaper, Toyota Nigeria Limited,TNL, is recalling the Yaris and Hilux Toyota models as there is a huge risk that the inflator modules of the airbags could be faulty.
The specific vehicles are the Toyota Yaris manufactured between 2003 and 2005 and the Toyota Hilux manufactured between 2003 and 2007.
Speaking on this development, the Managing Director of TNL, Kunle Ade-Ojo, says they had to take this step after being informed by Toyota Motor Company (TMC), Japan last week.
However, this airbag issue is a global problem because Takata, the Chinese company that manufactures the airbag say they have defective inflator and propellant devices that may deploy improperly in the event of a crash, shooting metal fragments into vehicle occupants.
