Just as we are still trying to swallow the bitter pill of shock and disappointment at the drama which broke out at the National Assembly yesterday, there are reports that officials of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, and members of the Association of Nigeria License Customs Agents, ANLCA, also engaged in a free for all fight at the Murtala Mohamed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos.
According to reports from the Daily Post, there were even sporadic gun shots by men of the NCS caused two members of ANLCA to sustain serious injuries while several others had minor injuries and some NCS officials at the airport claimed that the Customs Area Comptroller, CAC, was manhandled by the ANCLA members although the agents debunked the allegation.
It all started by an attempt by the CAC to inspect the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company, NAHCO’s, warehouse where the agents operate, supposedly to implement some reforms that would make the clearing of goods seamless. However, the agents were said to have stood on his way to gaining entrance, claiming that he came into the warehouse at break time.
It was gathered that despite introducing himself, one of the agents was said to have pushed the CAC. This led the situation to degenerate into crisis between the two parties and even led to an official being badly injured and had to be rushed to the hospital!!
I honestly can't fathom all of this, people in authority fighting? so what would criminals do? how do you caution them? Which way Nigeria?
