Firewood And Kerosene Still Remains The Most Popular Means Of Cooking In Nigeria

Despite steps in advanced technology which also covers the area of cooking, firewood and kerosene still remain the most often used means of cooking in Nigeria.

According to the Executive Vice Chairman of Techno Oil Limited, Nkechi Obi, no fewer than 30 million households and women in Nigeria are subjected to health hazards associated with the use of kerosene and firewood as domestic fuels.

Speaking during the recent 9TH Oil Trading and Logistics Downstream Expo/Exhibition held in Lagos, she advised the government as a matter of urgency to change the paradigm shift to a cleaner source of energy for cooking so that Nigerian women cook to live and not die.

This is because the smoke that emanates when cooking with firewood or kerosene is even more dangerous than cigarette smoke and a recent World Health Organisation report, states that cooking with firewood often results to indoor pollution, which globally accounted for over four million deaths every year.

So those of you that like Jollof rice cooked on firewood.....Lol!
