OPC's Gani Adams Inaugurates Oodua Progressive Union In Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire & Togo!

National Coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, Gani Adams, has formally inaugurated Oodua Progressive Union, OPU, in 3 countries of the West Coast and they are; Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire and Togo.

A 32 man delegation led by Gani Adams were present at the event which included 4 traditional rulers, Oba Joseph Adeoye Adewole – the Owa Ajero of Ijero kingdom; Oba Yisa Olanipekun – the Zaki of Arigidi, Ondo State; Oba Walidu Sanni Onigedegede of Igededgede, Ondo State and Oba Lasisi Olawuyi – Asagangan of Igangan, Oyo state.

According to reports, in the city of Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, Yorubas constitute about 2.5 million of the population. Speaking on this development, Gani Adams said the mission of the delegation was not for political reasons but to awaken the dying embers of the cultural values and heritage among the Yorubas in Diaspora.

He also explained the difference between the OPC and OPU saying the former is a self-determination group to protect the territorial integrity of Yoruba within Nigeria while the OPU is a socio-cultural organisation with the responsibility of re-awakening and resuscitating the Yoruba culture among people in Diaspora.
