The rate at which technology continues to improve is really amazing. Some doctors in China have successfully performed an extraordinary operation to save a man's severed hand by attaching it to his leg!
This rare operation was performed at a hospital in Changsha,China and the hand was successfully joined back on to his wrists after a month, when the nerves and tendons had healed from the trauma.
Zhou had his left hand chopped off during a work accident involving a spinning blade machine. When he was rushed to Xiangya Hospital in Changsha, Dr Tang Juyu, head of microsurgery at the hospital, decided on this operation he and his team had already successfully performed only once ever.
Due to the severity of the accident, the doctors were unable to attach it right away and needed to allow the nerves and tendons heal with time which made them decide to attach Zhou's left hand to his right ankle to keep it alive.
Luckily for him, Dr Tang and his team have now successfully reattached it to his arm in a 10-hour surgery and he is able to move his fingers slightly, but he will still need much rehabilitation before regaining full use of his hand.
