Since last week I noticed that contrary to regular electricity supply over the past months, last week was on an all time low but this report clarifies the reason why.
Prior to this, the 1,320 megawatt-capacity plant was generating 1,100 megawatts. However, there are allegations of sabotage by one of the former employees of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, who threw an object into the power plant and it tripped off.
This might be related to the fact that the defunct PHCN workers claim that the management sent hoodlums to sack them from the Egbin Housing Estate and unidentified persons removed the roofs of the houses occupied by the former employees thereby exposing their families and property to heavy downpour.
Although the Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Plc, Dallas M. Peavey, is yet to respond to these allegations, the company has denied complicity in the alleged invasion of the estate by thugs.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSEAC), Dubagari Umar Abubakar, has condemned the action of the management of Egbin Power Plc and says this act of impunity perpetuated by the thugs would be contested in court today, Monday October 5, 2015.
