A wave of change is taking over the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, as the new Comptroller-General, Martins Abeshi, has ordered the immediate suspension of documents inspection of companies by his officers.
The Comptroller-General said he has received several complaints of visitations to companies particularly in Lagos by some officers of the command under the guise of inspecting immigration documents and their duties were carried out in an unprofessional manner, thereby soiling the image of the NIS before the public.
However, he made it clear that such inspections have been suspended until a new template is produced for the exercise. Martins Abeshi has also asked all immigration officers conduct themselves with utmost decorum to build a solid and sustainable anti-corruption culture for the service.
