Custom Agents Threaten To Shut Down Ports Following Restriction On Container Movement

There are indications that the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, ANLCA, have threatened to shut down the Lagos ports over the restriction order on movement of trucks.

After last week's gruesome accident at Ojuelegba when an un-tethered container on a trailer fell off the bridge and claimed lives, the Lagos state government gave the directive for them not to ply the roads between the hours of 6am to 9pm.

However, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the National Publicity Secretary of the association, Kayode Farinto, released a statement that the directive is counter-productive and is impacting negatively on the economy.

The statement is asking Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to assist in providing a temporary holding bay for trucks transporting goods from ports to different destinations in other words, either the State changes its policy on this or provide an alternative measure.
