Last Ebola Patient In Sierra Leone Discharged Same Period We Remember Dr Adadevoh

It was with great joy I heard the news yesterday, that Sierra Leone discharged its last known Ebola patient this week and are now waiting for the mandatory 42 days for the World Health Organisation, WHO, to declare the country Ebola free.

I find it such a unique coincidence that this occurred in the same month Nigeria's Dr  Ameyo Stella Adadevoh died and is being remembered for helping to prevent the spread of Ebola in the country by stopping Liberian patient, Patrick Sawyer, from leaving her hospital.

35 year old Adama Sankoh was discharged from a treatment centre in the northern Bombali district in Sierra Leone on Monday and according to the National Ebola Response Centre, the country hasn't reported a new infection for more than 2 weeks now.

This is indeed a milestone after over a year of the outbreak which has seen almost 4,000 people lose their lives to this virus in Sierra Leone.

However, OB Sisay, Director of the situation room of the centre, urged people to continue to be vigilant, continue their surveillance, maintain the discipline of hand-washing, temperature checks, screening and avoid over-crowding.
