Reports from Leadership Newspaper indicate that the sector commander also made it known that the new driver’s licence must be the one approved by the commission, warning that any driver who fails to produce the new driver’s licence will face the wrath of the law.
While addressing stakeholders at a meeting on “strict enforcement of safety standards on tankers and articulated vehicles”, he said that the command will impound vehicles from drivers yet to obtain the new licence from the 1st of July.
Meanwhile, a couple of days ago, the Federal High Court in Lagos ruled that the FRSC cannot arrest any motorist for not having the new driver’s licence if the old version is yet to expire.
Justice John Tsoho, in his ruling on a suit filed by a lawyer, Tope Alabi, granted an order of perpetual injunction restraining FRSC from compelling the valid driver licence holders, including the plaintiff to renew same when such driver licences have not expired.
