To ease transportation of goods from the Northern to the Eastern part of the country, the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, kicked off the Kano- Port- Harcourt Inter City Mixed Train Service yesterday.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of NRC, Adesuyi Sijuwade made it known that for over 10 years, train movement from Kano through Kafancan to Port Harcourt had stopped.
According to him, this included the movement of goods from from Kofar Wambai Market , Kantin Kwari and Kurmi Market in Kano by rail to Ogbete Market in Enugu Ariari Market in Aba and Diobu Market in Port Harcourt has been comatose.
The newly introduced train service comprises two 68-seater Air conditioned Modern first class Passenger Coaches, restaurant coach for comfort on board and several class coaches. It will initially run one trip per week and will gradually increase in frequency as patronage improves
