In order to check the spread of bird flu which hit the country a few months ago, the federal government had to destroy more than 1.4 million birds.
This was made known by the the Executive Director, National Veterinary Research Institute, Mohammed Ahmed, who told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, that 18 states were affected by the bird flu.
However, he said compensations for the destroyed birds have started being paid by the Federal Government and appealed to the states to help by initiating steps to assist farmers.
