Bad News For Importers As Cargo Clearance Now Takes 21 Days Instead Of 7

Importers are definitely not finding it funny right now at the ports as the Customs Department has resorted to 100% manual cargo inspection which means cargo clearance now takes 21 days as opposed to the usual 7 days.

According to reports from Business Day, this is due to the breakdown of the scanning equipment at Apapa and Tin-Can Island ports.

Confirming this, the public relations officer of Apapa Customs, Emma Ekpa, said the scanners are being worked on but that it wilk soon be back to normal.

Unfortunately, this has led to long queues of yet to be examined containers at the examination bay, given the large volume of cargoes that pass through Apapa and Tin-Can Island ports.
