The Ramadan fast of Muslim faithful worldwide is set to begin and Saudi Arabia and several other Arab countries have announced that it will start tomorrow, Thursday 18th and will continue for 30 days until Friday, the 17th of July.
Similar official announcements have been made by religious authorities in Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen and Palestine.
Meanwhile, the beginning and end of Ramadan always depends on the sighting of the new moon.
Fasting is one of Islam’s five pillars, alongside declaration of faith, prayer five times a day, alms-giving, and the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. During Ramadan, devout Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset.
