With about 5 weeks to the new election date in Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed a new person to take over his social media team.
What this means is that the former front man, Reno Omokri has now been sidelined as showbiz personality, Obi Asika now takes over as the new Senior Special Assistant on social media.
According to SaharaReporters, this move is seen as an apparent maneuver to re-energize President Jonathan's social media image following a growing slide in his electoral fortunes as well as a series of scandals involving Reno Omokri.
Reports indicate that Reno, who returned from California in 2011 to boost the presidents campaign has now become a huge liability and source of distraction.
His statements on social media rather than make the president look good have actually done the opposite.
Presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati has confirmed Obi Asika’s appointment and with this development, Reno Omokri is expected to report to him in line with the new hierarchy.
Although there have been indications that this is a demotion of sorts, it is unclear whether Reno Omokri will stay on or resign in coming days.
