Despite Boko Haram, Borno State Government Set To Pay WAEC & NECO Fees For Students

Despite the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state , the government says they will pay the registration fees of both WAEC and NECO examinations for Senior Secondary School Students this year.

According to the state Commissioner for Education, Isa Buratai, this is to help reduce the hardship being experienced by parents of the students, who are mainly farmers and traders. This he said became necessary as most of them have lost their means of livelihood to the ongoing insurgency.

However, the Commissioner said parents may be asked to pay 25% of the total cost of the registration fees. He also confirmed that arrangements have been made to enable the Senior Secondary School students take extra lessons to prepare themselves for the final examination.

Meanwhile, the Chairman, NUT, Borno Branch, Bulama Abiso, reiterated their plea to the state government to reopen schools within the Maiduguri metropolis. He also appealed for improvement of teachers’ welfare and implementation of the N18,000 minimum wage as well as annual increment for primary school teachers across the 27 council areas of the state.
