There were indications last week that Nigeria's former Minister of State for Defense, Musiliu Obanikoro was going to sue Sahara Reporters for millions of Naira following their release of the audio tape alleging election rigging in Ekiti state.
However, all he has sent is a mere warning letter which doesn't amount to much. Obanikoro has been threatening legal action against them since the website released the audio on the 5th of Febrary where himself and other PDP officials were heard plotting to illegally manipulate the 2014 Ekiti State governorship election.
In the audio, the ex-Defense minister and his co-conspirators, including Governor Ayo Fayose, are heard in turns berating Brigadier General A.A. Momoh and promising him promotions and other inducements to help rig the elections in favor of the PDP.
Initially there had been reports that Obanikoro had served SaharaReporters with court papers last week, and that they had 42 days to prepare their defense.
However, it was revealed that a New York law firm, Tacopina and Seigel, only emailed a warning letter to SaharaReporters asking them to cease and desist from making false and disparaging statements about Senator Obanikoro on the Internet.
