Oftentime, Nigerian politicians make so many promises to get people to vote them into office and once they assume that position they forget what they said they would do.
This seems to be the case in Kogi state where payment of the West African Examination Council, WAEC, fees for students in the state has been stopped despite it being one of the promised things to do.
However, according to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria, Idris Wada, Governor of Kogi state says corruption is the main reason that the state government stopped the payment of WAEC fees.
Speaking in Lokoja yesterday at a meeting with political appointees, he alleged that some dubious and corrupt officials hijacked the project to enrich themselves and their cronies.
He explained that the officials inflated the fees from 270 Million Naira in 2012 when he assumed office to 500 Million Naira in 2015.
However, Wada says the government would not hesitate to refund parents who presented evidence of payment of the fees for their wards.
