In reaction to calls by the National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki, for a postponement of next month’s polls, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says the elections would not be shifted.
Dasuki while speaking at a forum in London called for a postponement of the polls in order to give INEC more time to distribute millions of Permanent Voters Card to voters.
Meanwhile, INEC’s Director for Voter Education and Publicity, Wale Uzzi, also confirmed to newsmen that there are no plans to shift the polls.
However, there has been an extension of the collection of the Permanent Voters Card which is currently going on and is expected to end on the 31st of January.
It has now been extended to the 8th of February to allow more time for people to ensure they collect their cards.
