In not so cheery news, Lagos State Government has finally confirmed that there is indeed Bird Flu in the Badore- Ajah axis of the state.
According to reports from the Daily Post, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Gbolahan Lawal, he made this known at a press briefing yesterday alongside Health Commissioner, Jide Idris.
He said investigations have revealed that the Bird Flu came into the state through birds transported from the North during the Christmas season and that zoological park based in Victoria Garden City is currently on suspicion list and was being investigated following a high mortality of wild birds.
Meanwhile, some of the measures taken by the government to prevent spread of the disease include, active disease search by surveillance agents, bio security monitoring and sensitization in poultry farms and markets, disinfection of poultry markets, decontamination of affected farms and sensitization of poultry farmers and traders on insurance policy.
He also said a team of 8 technical staff, comprising representatives of the Federal Livestock Department, National Quarantine Service and the National veterinary Research Institute are currently in the state on disease assessment and surveillance.
The good news though is that emergency active disease search carried out in the last 48 hours had so far indicated no spread of the disease.
Hmnnn...I guess no chicken or turkey for me for now. Fish how you doing? Lol
