Nigerian Catholic Church Set To Launch TV Station In Abuja

It sure seems like the Catholic church is moving away from its conservative stance as the Abuja Catholic Diocese is set to launch her TV station which will be called Catholic Television, CTV.

This was made known a few days ago at a dinner organised for the formal take off of the new station. According to reports, the church will require about 300 Million Naira to set up a standard television studio.

The Archbishop of the Abuja Metropolitan See, Cardinal John Oniayekan, said the new television station is intended to be used as a tool of evangelism to deepen the faith of the Catholic faithful within and outside the country.

In his keynote address at the CTV dinner organised by the church, the Cardinal said the new TV station is also expected to provide all Catholics the opportunity to evangelize in the future, using the electronic media to reach families in their homes.

According to Cardinal Onaiyekan, the inspiration of the TV station came from comments by various Popes, who have constantly talked about the need of the church to use the modern means of communication for evangelism today.
