Nigeria has again broken a record being the country to produce the first ever female president of the Organisation Of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC.
This is because the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke has just been been announced as the new President of OPEC. She was elected today at the ongoing 166th General Meeting of the OPEC in Vienna, Austria.
OPEC is a permanent intergovernmental organization of 12 oil-exporting developing nations that coordinates and unifies the petroleum policies of its member countries of which Nigeria is one of them.
Diezani Alison-Madueke has held three significant positions in the Nigerian federal government. She was appointed Transport Minister in July 2007, Minister of Mines and Steel Development in 2008 and Minister for Petroleum Resources in 2010.
