FRSC Introduces Speed Limiter Devices In Vehicles Nationwide

In steps to reduce accidents that result from high speed on Nigerian roads, the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC has announced that they will introduce speed limiting devices.

The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, made this known yesterday at a sensitization forum in Abuja geared towards this development.

He said the sensitization would be done in all states of the federation and called on motorists across the country to comply with the implementation strategies, saying that defaulters would have their cars impounded and then charged to court.

Commercial and private vehicles are urged to comply with this arrangement to make the roads safe as  being on high speed makes it difficult to manoeuvre and avoid accidents.

Also present at the forum was the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, who blamed road crashes and loss of human lives and property across the country on over-speeding. He commended the speed limiting devices by the FRSC while pointing out that attention should be paid to the quality of the equipment, its calibration, the likelihood of tampering by drivers and vehicle owners and availability and effectiveness of enforcement personnel if the programme must succeed.

The Speed Limiter would be installed in vehicles from June next year and  with that, drivers will not be able to go beyond the limit on each road once the device is installed in their vehicles.
