I saw the picture above and couldn't help laughing because it
just made me imagine what would have happened if Jesus had actually died and resurrected
in this 21st century. He sure would have trended on Twitter, Instagram,
Facebook and all the other social media platforms.
However, I feel like the Easter ceremony is not really ‘pulsing’
(forgive my use of this word) in comparison with Christmas meanwhile Easter is
actually the foundation of the Christian faith. If Jesus didn’t die and
resurrect again then there is no hope for we who call ourselves Christians because
this act shows He indeed has power over death a phenomenon nobody can decipher
yet.
Death itself remains a mystery as it is something EVERYONE
must go through, it is a time when life ends for a human being and it must indeed
end at one point in time although most of us pray for it to come later than
sooner and yet NOBODY has been able to prevent it from happening. Thus the
resurrection signifies a living hope that Christians will be spiritually
resurrected someday after death.
The Christmas holidays is usually celebrated with so much
fanfare and noise but the Easter holiday doesn't seem to have such. Easter is
actually marked to remind us of what makes Jesus different from prophets and
men of great religions in the world and that is the fact that he rose from the
dead and left behind an empty tomb.
Jesus’ death and resurrection is more than just a historical
fact though because ample evidence has proven that He indeed rose from the
dead. In accordance with Jewish burial custom, a dead body is wrapped in linen
cloth and placed in a solid rock tomb where an extremely large stone is rolled
against the entrance. This stone is usually rolled against the tomb entrance
with levers as it’s too heavy for humans to roll.
Asides this, a group of
strictly disciplined fighting Roman guards were stationed at Jesus’ tomb to
prevent anyone from vandalizing the sepulcher….but with all of these, three
days later Jesus’ TOMB WAS EMPTY!!!! History reports that the stone was totally
rolled away from the tomb and the linen cloth was left in the tomb.
Furthermore, so much security precaution was taken with Jesus
‘trial, crucifixion, burial and guarding of His tomb that it becomes very
difficult for critics to defend their position that Jesus Christ did not rise
from the dead.
With all these I think it is very crucial to see Easter for
what it really is; a time when HOPE and REDEMPTION was made available for us as
Christians and it should be celebrated as such!!
Well said Bims! 'Jesus is the reason for the season', that's what we say during christmas, what of easter? Yes, some might argue that we celebrate christmas more cos its when christ was born, but if he didn't rise again, then we would have not been saved, nor would we have had hope, talk more of celebrating his birth. Let's 'loud it' at easter! Jesus is alive!
