Standards Organisation Of Nigeria To Clamp Down On Tokunbo Importers

You might want to give that second hand car you want to buy online a second look as the Standards Organization Of Nigeria, SON has started implementation of conformity to standard of these vehicles popularly known as Tokunbo.

It is not strange for people to import in accidented vehicles, fix them up and sell them off to unsuspecting public as Tokunbo cars. Not to mention the increasing rate of accidents being caused by such cars.

Therefore, Director-General of SON, Joseph Odumodu, says the implementation is very necessary and also because of an increase in complaints from the general public over the condition of the second-hand vehicles being imported into the country.

According to him its not even about the age of the vehicles but the condition of the engine, emission, the mechanical function, among other features and in order to stop the trend of using Nigeria as a dumping ground for rickety vehicles.

He is hereby warning importers of second hand vehicles that it will no longer be business as usual as relevant measures are being put in place in the overall interest of the country.
