These are not the best of times for anyone who is a Liberian as a backlash has erupted following the death of Thomas Duncan from Liberia who died from the dreaded Ebola virus this week in the US and is also recorded as the first person to import the disease into the country.
Recall also that it was a Liberian, Patrick Sawyer who brought the disease into Nigeria. This has caused a backlash on Liberians in diaspora as they are now being stigmatized. Earlier this week, I also read about a little boy being turned back from school because he is from Liberia.
It remains to be seen how all this will pan out as there is still no cure for Ebola and the survival rate is really very slim.
