However, the Spokesperson for the NYSC, Olubunmi Aderibigbe says the policy is in the interest of the corps members and not for exploitative reasons.
Defending this policy in Abuja yesterday, she said what the NYSC has done is to reduce the cost associated with collection of call up letters, explaining that some prospective corps members go through a lot of hassles before collecting their call-up letters and that many of them travel several kilometers away from their homes just to get the call-ups.
Ms Aderibigbe clarified that what the agency has done is to reduce the cost and risks associated with the collection of the call-ups and to eliminate sharp practices associated with the old process.
She maintained that the management of NYSC remains committed to the welfare and well-being of corps members and would not in any way exploit them.
