Mother's Day or Mothering Sunday????

Hmnnn...so today is Mother’s Day or is it? Yes this question is necessary because the truth is there is another Mother’s Day celebration in May!!!(Lol)

Mother's Day is a celebration that honors mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in the society.

It is actually celebrated in different months in many parts of the world for e.g in the US it is celebrated in May while in the UK it is celebrated in March. In the UK and Ireland, it was initially called Mothering Sunday which had a Christian background and wasn’t about celebrating mothers at all. It was set for the 4th Sunday in the Lenten season which is a period Christians fast before Easter.

The Mothering Sunday was a day people returned to their mother church which was usually the main church or cathedral of the area. But gradually, it has became an occasion for honoring the mothers of children and giving them presents so the two celebrations have now been mixed up, and many people think that they are the same thing.

And because Nigeria was colonized by the British, we usually celebrate Mothers Day with the UK and they are celebrating it today.

I want to also point out that Mother’s Day isn’t just about celebrating women that have children...ALL WOMEN are mother figures because we have been created to nurture....if you are a woman...HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to you!!!

My Wonderful Mother and I...She remains a PILLAR of SUPPORT!!!
My Wonderful Gifts and I...I'm trying to be a PILLAR to them!!!
