How Far With The N1 Trillion Fine Between MTN And NCC?

This is the question following reports that the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has imposed a fine of over N1.04 Trillion on MTN Nigeria for failing to  deactivate unregistered SIMs and incomplete SIM card details on its network.

NCC based the fine on a N200,000 surcharge for 5.2 million MTN subscribers who had unregistered SIMs and incomplete details on its network.

However, according to reports from This Day newspaper, MTN Group, in a statement from South Africa say discussions are on with the NCC to resolve the matter amicably.

Meanwhile, NCC has given the telecoms operator till 16th of November to pay the fine.
