A teacher in South Africa has been sentenced to one year imprisonment for beating a grade 2 pupil.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Philippine Rakosa was sent to jail for beating the 8 year old girl with a hosepipe for failing a class test at Gordon`s Primary School in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg.
This sentence is meant to serve as a warning to other teachers that corporal punishment was outlawed in South Africa.
Unfortunately, as a result of the beating, the child suffered an infection and her hand no longer functions properly.
Hmnn...this issue of beating children continues to be a major problem but don't children need beating once in a while or what do you think?
