Pensioners in Rivers state will definitely have all the cause to rejoice as Governor Nyesom Wike, has directed the accountant general of the state to pay them the three months arrears owed them by the past administration.
According to reports from the Daily Post, he gave the directive at the weekend saying that it was callous and insensitive to owe pensioners who had served the state creditably.
A statement was also issued by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to Wike, Opunabo Inko-Taria, noting that the pensioners in the state were owed for months by the former Governor Chibuike Amaechi and some of them even died in penury.
However, the governor has promised to ensure regular payment of their pensions.
