Google Accused Of Racism When App Labels Black Americans As Gorrillas

Internet giant, Google, came under fire recently for racial discrimination when its photo app wrongly labelled pictures of two African-Americans as “gorillas.”

Reports from CNN state that this highly offensive error happened when photos including New York-based software developer, Jacky Alcine and his friend were uploaded and he immediately shared his displeasure on Twitter.

Luckily, his comments caught the attention of Google executive Yonatan Zunger, who apologized and said they used to have a problem with people of all races being tagged as dogs.

He also made it known that Google is working on longer-term fixes around words to use in photos of people and image recognition of dark-skinned faces.

Meanwhile, a Google spokeswoman also told the BBC that they’re appalled and genuinely sorry that this happened.
