Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai has explained why the state will no longer be giving out welfare package including gifts and food during Ramadan and Christmas festivities.
According to a statement signed by his media aide, Samuel Aruwan, it is because of the poor finances of the government and the need to conserve resources for development in the state.
His decision to stop this usual largess has come under serious criticism from civil servants in the state who are already used to this.
El-Rufai explained that investigation revealed that it is mainly prominent politicians and influential personalities that benefit from the Ramadan and Christmas gifts instead of the so-called poor.
However, he made it known that he was coordinating with some of his friends to pool resources together to provide Ramadan feeding as private individuals to the vulnerable in the society.
