We are indeed in that era where young entrepreneurs continue to stand out from the crowd in terms of what they can deliver and the MD of Ruby Fay Events, is no exception.

She has a very unassuming look when you first meet her until she starts to talk about her work and you see her practically transform before your eyes as she passionately runs you through her work which is basically creating a unique experience for every event she organizes.

Having gone through many pictures of work she has been doing, I was blown away and decided to feature her on my blog so other people can realize that you don't have to break a bank before you can have that 'Dream Come True' event.

Can we meet you?

I am Adenrele Fayose. MD of Ruby Fay Events. My first degree is in ICT and Business from Queen Mary’s College, University of London while my Master’s degree is in Business Management & Internal Auditing from Sir John Cass Business School, City University, London. I am married with an amazing daughter.

How long have you been doing this business?


Officially, I have been doing this Event Planning business for 2 years and unofficially for 4 years.

Why events management?
                              
I have ALWAYS had a budding passion for organizing and planning anything and any type of events since my A- levels/ University days. I would always get excited when there is an event in the family to plan. 

However, with traditional parents, Event planning wasn’t an option then and even after school. So I moved back to Nigeria and started to work with First Bank while planning events on the side. After a couple of years, I decided that it was time to do me and follow my dream and I am glad I did.

What are the major challenges in this kind of business?

The occasional clients who wouldn't give you a chance because they feel you are to an extent new in the industry. What a lot of people do not understand is that my business only just started officially 2 years ago but planning events is something I have been doing for a while now. 

I even got the opportunity to plan the First Bank Group Management Retreat and Board Meeting while I was working there. Also, some clients fail to understand that because some people have been in the industry for years does not mean they have got the passion for what they do. In my opinion, once you have passion for whatever it is you have decided to pursue, you would work hard to ensure it goes well.

What kind of services does Ruby Fay events offer

We are an Events Planning & Management company. We completely manage Weddings, Corporate Events, Social Events and all types of Events.  

We offer Full& Partial Event Planning, on the day coordination, Ushering service, AsoEbi management, EruIyawo, Gift sourcing & Packaging, Invitation Sourcing & management, Accommodation & Logistics, Budget Management, RSVP & Guest List Management and so much more.

Does one have to break the bank to have Ruby Fay manage our event?

(smiles) No you do not have to break the bank to have us plan your event. In fact, we ensure we work to our client’s budget. We ensure to put a lot of factors into place before billing our clients.

What goes through your mind on the day of an event you organise?

First of all, days to my event, I am literally excited and hardly sleep. On the morning of my events, I first commit the affairs of the day and the event into God’s hands and then I start my rounds. I call my Lead Event Coordinator for that event to ensure set up is well on the way, I do a quick run through to ensure nothing was overlooked or left out and then I make my way to the venue to oversee everything.

Is it a lucrative business?

Yes it is a very lucrative business and the industry itself is growing extremely fast. I am very sure that if one was to ask the people who have been planners for the last 10 years they will tell you the same thing.

What exactly goes into being an event planner?

A lot of professionalism and patience as you meet all sorts of clients with different ideas and attitudes and you have to be able to accommodate and deal with them accordingly and professionally.

You have to be able to think outside the box. One thing I don’t do is to treat every event the same. I always try to think of something new that can be incorporated into the event. As a planner you must also be able to think on your feet. 

You must always be able to think and bring up a solution should Plan A on the day of the event not work. One must also possess attention to detail, you must consider the littlest detail that your client might not even think about. 

What are the things to consider when getting an events planner?

The planners experience, their ability to think outside the box, their ability to work within your budget and time frame. Their professionalism as well.

What is your signature style that stands out ruby fay from other event companies?

I’d say the quality of our work, the passion we put into what we do has always brought back referrals. We always go above and beyond what we have been paid and our client’s expectations. Also, we are a very understanding company, so we try as much as possible to work within our client’s budget. We always have something for every client out there. 

As a young woman entrepreneur with a family,does Ruby Fay ever come in d way of your duties as a wife and mother?

It has all been the grace of God and a supportive family. It has not been easy especially with combining my role as a mother and an entrepreneur as I am a very hands on mother and a very hands on event planner. But with God and an amazing support system all things are possible.

What part of an event excites you the most?

I’d say the day of the event itself. Watching all the planning one had done for six months or so prior to the event come to reality and just fall into place.

Where do you see Ruby Fay in the next 5 yrs?

By the Special Grace of God, I pray for Ruby Fay to first of all be a house hold name and the first point of call for anybody planning to have an event. I want to see it become that One Stop shop for anything events within and outside Nigeria and to always give top quality service to our clients. 

I am very big on the latter because, in this life, everyone is in the business to make money, while some are there to make money but have immense passion for what they do. And once there is passion in what you do and the Grace of God, money would always over take you.
