17 Yr Old Boy Earns $6,000 From App He Built For Instagram

A 17 year old Los Angeles high school student, Caleb Benn has developed an app called Uploader for Instagram, which allows users upload photos to Instagram directly from their computer instead of solely from their phone, which has long been a frustration.

According to reports from CNN, it took him only one weekend to build and it has been on the Apple app store for a couple weeks, where it's growing in popularity and the app costs $4.99 which Caleb says makes him about $1,000 daily.

However, an engineer for Instagram has sent Caleb an email saying the app violates the company's terms of service but Caleb insists that it's entirely legal for his app to perform these actions.

There have been arguments that from a product perspective, Instagram is intended to be about capturing the moment using a phone's camera and by enabling computers  upload pictures directly, it could take away the platform's aesthetic and tone.

Unfortunately, Caleb has shut down the app which he says was a tough decision but says he can't afford to be in a lawsuit with such a big company. Luckily for him though, he made about $6,000 in revenue from the app for the few weeks that it was active.
