UNILAG VC Lifts 10 Year Ban On Student Unionism In The Institution

The 10 year ban on Student Union activities in the University of Lagos has finally been lifted by the Vice Chancellor, Rahman Bello.

He made this known at the recent matriculation ceremony which welcomed 6,644 new students into the institution for the 2014/2015 session.

Speaking during the ceremony, which took place at the university's multi-purpose hall, he explained that the number of students admitted were about 10% of the total number of applicants who fully scaled the registration procedure.

The VC also congratulated the students on making it through the screening process while urging them to strive for excellence throughout their stay in the citadel of learning.

Meanwhile, the 10 year ban on student unionism commenced since 2005 following violence at that time but he said it has become apparent that they have learnt their lesson and elections would soon commence to choose student representatives.
