Earlier this week, the people of Bodo Community in Ogoni area of Rivers state got the good news that oil giant, Shell, will be paying them over 15 Billion Naira as compensation for oil spills in their area.
According to reports, the spokesperson of Bodo Community, Sylvester Ndigbara says despite this, the ban on oil exploration in the area is still in force and the community will still not do any business with Shell.
Ndigbara said the ban on oil exploration in Bodo is an Ogoni agenda which is being followed to the latter. He also confirmed that about N600,000 will be given to each individual in the community.
This money he says, will help them start small scale businesses and make up for the loss of income to most of them over the years.
