Which Way Nigeria? 70% Of Students Fail November/December 2014 WAEC

The November/December 2014 West African Examination Council, WAEC, results have been released and it wasn't anything to write home about.

Over 70% of the students failed as out of the 246,853 candidates who sat for the exams, only 72,522 candidates, obtained credits in 5 subjects, including Mathematics and English Language.

This gives a pass rate of 29.27%, a record which only supersedes that of 2013 by only 1 %! This is because last year only 86,612 candidates passed out of a total number of 298,971 candidates who wrote the examinations.

However, the Head of the WAEC, Nigeria National Office, Charles Eguridu, said there was a marked reduction in examination malpractices. This makes me wonder if prior to this, those passing well had been cheating?

Honestly, something needs to be done about the educational sector generally as it seems like it is gradually on a decline which isn't encouraging one bit!

This is also coupled with the fact that most of the people and bodies in the position of encouraging students' education in terms of incentives asides the parents, would rather focus their resources on talents like football, musical shows and the like.
