After a 12 hour meeting which lasted well into the night yesterday, Nigeria’s oil workers’ unions have suspended their nationwide strike.
They had gone on strike to protest several unresolved issues with the government, including unfair labour practices and non-passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill.
However, the decision to call-off the strike was arrived finally in the early hours of this morning after a close-door meeting in Abuja between representatives of the union and the Federal Government delegation led by the Supervising Labour Minister, Tanimu Turaki.
I guess that is the Christmas present the Federal Government is giving us this year as it was almost becoming the norm for there to always be fuel scarcity during Christmas.
