President Goodluck Jonathan has instructed the Nigerian Universities Commission, NUC, to select the best graduates and secure admissions for them to study up to doctorate level in universities abroad irrespective of their locations nationwide.
In line with this, 100 First class graduates will be sponsored to further their studies abroad according to the Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau.
These are the first batch that have been screened and would soon leave the country to study in the best 25 universities in the world.
He made this known yesterday in Kano during a media interaction and awards ceremony while clarifying that they will be sponsored under the Special Presidential Scholarship Programme.
The Minister also said as part of the government’s effort to provide Nigerians qualitative education, some university lecturers have also been sponsored for various training locally and abroad.
