US Explains Refusal To Assist Nigeria Against Boko Haram

There have been reports this week,  stating that the United States have refused to assist Nigeria fight Boko Haram and yesterday, the US have denied such allegations saying, there has been a great deal of US aid to Nigeria.

According to This Day newspaper, the US admitted that it blocked the third party sale of Cobra helicopters to the Nigerian military but provided and approved of sales of other military equipment to the Nigerian armed forces.

Confirming this, a US spokesperson, Jen Psaki said the US refused the transfer of Cobra helicopters due to concerns about the Nigerian army's ability to use them as well as ongoing concerns about the Nigerian military’s protection of civilians when conducting military operations.

The Cobra helicopters are a brand of attack helicopters manufactured by Bell Helicopters in Forth Worth, Texas.

Meanwhile, Jen Psaki has stated that Washington is ready to help Nigeria train and improve the effectiveness of its military.
