10 Habits You Should Consider Quitting

So many of us have got habits we would love to stop but kind of find it hard but before you feel bad about it, you need to realize that there is no person without a bad habit. That kinda makes you feel good right?

However, habits can be broken with determination and below are 10 habits that most of us battle with. Check which ever one is applicable to you and adjust accordingly.

1. Overeating

There’s more than one reason why many of us habitually overeat maybe we were taught as children to never leave any food on the plate, maybe we’re overstressed at work and eating a comfort food is the only way to cope with this, you name it. But overeating only adds to stress, just as it adds to your weight. That should be good enough reason to find an alternative way to cope with stress.

2. Substance abuse

Besides illegal drugs, which we won’t touch on here, a lot of us have felt the consequences of too much wine or too many cigarettes on more than one morning. Yes, wine is good for you but in moderation. Cigarettes are not good for you, though one wouldn’t kill you. Try sticking to a couple of drinks next time you go out, and see if a clear head the next morning is a good enough reason to quit binging.

3. Social networks

Okay, own up: how much time do you dedicate to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or some other social network every day? It’s become a sort of addiction these days for many people and addictions are by definition bad habits. Why not make an experiment: list five things that you like doing, apart from hanging out on Twitter. Can’t think of five things to do offline? Then try for three. You can be sure that these three things will be much more gratifying, than browsing through statuses and promotional posts for things you neither want nor need.

4. TV shows(Telemundo...Lol!)

There is another addiction rearing its ugly head these days, and its name should be ‘TV show binging’. There are so many shows to choose from it’s somehow become impossible to not watch any. And then you start adding more and more to your watch-list, until that’s all you can think about. And you start taking it all very personally (do you know how many anti-Steven Moffat clubs are there?) Once again: think moderation.

5. Games

Do you play any Candy Crush Saga? Do you prefer to Candy Crush instead of going to a movie or reading a book? What happened to the good old quest games that taught people strategic thinking, pattern recognition, and mental flexibility? And no, Candy Crush does not teach you all these things, honestly. Nothing wrong with playing it, just don’t let it take over your life.

6. Healthy living obsession

How to make your life better? Stop healthy living obsession! That’s not a joke. There are thousands of people out there who cannot think about anything other than whether all the ingredients of their lunch are sufficiently organic and low-carbon-print, or whether they should increase their fitness regimen by another half an hour. Obsession is decidedly not healthy, which makes things pretty ironic, doesn’t it?

7. Fashion addiction

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being fashion-conscious. That said, buying 10-inch platform stilettos that you can’t really walk on, just because they’re all the rage, is not an example of fashion consciousness, it’s an example of blindly following a passing fad that could land you in hospital with a broken ankle. If you can walk on them – no problem, get two pairs.

8. Work

Again, working is not a bad habit as such but overworking definitely is. Whatever the reason – career advancement, money, fame – spending 60 hours a week at the office is unlikely to bring you the fulfillment you crave. Put simply, we all need a balance between work and personal time, even if we have the job we’ve always dreamed of.

9. Celebrity gossip

How to make your life better? Think about whether or not you need celebrity gossip in your life. Do you really, seriously need to know how often your favorite celebrity changes her underwear? Of course you don’t, you just want to see how close to – or far from – ordinary people the stars are. Look at it this way: deep down we’re all human, stars and common people alike. The rest is perks and quirks.

10. Inertia

This is perhaps one of the worst habits we have to deal with. Staying in a job you hate but it pays the bills, or staying in a relationship that’s going nowhere can make you utterly miserable and permanently, at that. The good news is that it is fully within your power to put an end to such a situation. Your happiness is your responsibility, after all, and that’s very liberating idea.

How many do you find yourself guilty of? don't lie o!
