17 years after the death of iconic musician and creator of Afrobeat, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, one of the 27 wives he married together in one day still insists that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was the bane of their troubles and destroying of the then Kalakuta Republic.
Mama Laide Kuti was speaking this morning on the popular morning show on TVC, Your View and I found her interview very enlightening. She said Fela married the 27 of them together in 1978 as a way of compensating them for the loss and injuries they had after their home was raided by military men.
She was invited over as this week is Felabration, the annual celebration of Fela as a music brand who influenced many lives. Also Fela would have been 76 years old today as he was born on the 15th of October 1938.
Since 1998, Felabration has been celebrated annually and is a week long musical event which attracts people from all over the world. In 2008, over 50 international artistes came together from the United
States, Great Britain, France and Senegal to perform at Felabration
under the banner, African Express. This year's event started on Monday the 13th of this month and will end on Sunday the 19th.
The Abami Eda himself was a social critic, political activist and champion of the underprivileged as well as a philosopher of his own political ideologue and he remains a hero to millions till today for his contributions to society.
