It has become a usual sight to see pirated copies of movies and music being hawked
in our ever present Lagos traffic and if you are truthful you know you have
purchased some a couple of times (don’t lie jor!!)
Piracy is the illegal copying of movie and music DVDs and CDs not
forgetting illegal downloads online as well.

Just yesterday, Nollywood actor and director, Kunle Afolayan took this
issue personally when he came across a hawker in traffic,selling pirated copies of the movie
‘Half Of A Yellow Sun’ adapted from
Chinamanda Adichie’s book of the same title. The movie was actually just
released in Nigerian cinemas last month.
He seized the copies from the seller and broke them to pieces in his
presence, Kunle Afolayan then took to Twitter to make his actions known and of
course it generated a serious debate.
I know the issue of piracy is a major one we are battling here in
Nigeria but is this really the solution? Can the issue of piracy really be put
to an end?
What can be done to curb this trend because it really is painful to spend so much money producing a movie or song and not being able to generate anything back from it due to piracy.
