There had been conflicting reports as regards the September 22nd date of resumption of Primary and secondary schools by the Federal Government. This was because the Lagos State Government had initially disagreed with the proposed date.
However according to a statement issued by the Lagos State Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Lateef Raji yesterday, the government now agrees that an upward shift of the date was no longer necessary and that schools should resume on September 22 in compliance with the Federal Government’s directive.
The statement informed that the Ebola Virus Disease for which the resumption was initially postponed had been significantly contained as there was no carrier in the state at the moment. It added that Health professionals working on the outbreak are also in agreement that there was no reason why schools should be closed beyond September 22.
The Lagos State Government has also promised to put in place measures to ensure the threat of the virus was eliminated from schools. Some of the measures were listed to include training of teachers and school owners on how to be safe from the virus, health monitoring and surveillance and provision of sanitary facilities in schools.
