Wole Soyinka....Celebration Of An Icon

Young Wole Soyinka
Living to a ripe old age of 80years in this age and time is indeed worth celebrating as there are so many deaths we hear everyday of people that are way younger than this, which is why congratulations are in order for Nobel laureate,Wole Soyinka.

Nigerian playwright and poet,Wole Soyinka turned 80 on Sunday July 13th 2014 and he is a man who remains in the public eye despite his age because he is a voice that has always been very vocal in expressing what he thinks is right without fear or favor.
Professor Wole Soyinka

He was the first African to ever be honored with the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986 and has written plays that were produced both home and abroad. He also played an active role in Nigeria's political history and the struggle for independence from Great Britain and was often arrested and put in prison a number of times for this(but he was no Nelson Mandela who was in prison for 27 years*straightface*)

Wole Soyinka has also been a professor at many universities in America,UK and also in Nigeria(the man too like book jor...Lol)and just incase you didn't know,he is actually cousin to the late Fela Ransome Kuti,Dr Beko Ransome Kuti and Professor Olikoye Ransome Kuti.

Among Wole Soyinka's contributions to academic and art are: 21 plays,2 novels,5 memoirs,10 poetry collections,6 essays and 3 movies....so we say three big hearty cheers and three gbosas to a great Go-Getter!!!
