On the children’s show I host on radio on
Saturdays,(City Kids Show:12.30-1.30Pm),I have these 10 Commandments I always
read out to the children on how to protect them from Child Sexual Abuse.
This menace is on an all-time high in Nigeria as
opposed to years gone by when it used to be an ‘Oyinbo” thing that we hear
happens abroad.
Just this week a 30 year old man from Ebonyi
state has been arrested for raping a 2 year old girl!!Yes you read that right…2(two)
years old.
The perpetrator, Inya Okoro blamed his dastardly act on his sexual urges which he
referred to as ‘Conji’ saying that he saw little Favour lying down sleeping and wearing only a pant and that he
became aroused and pounced on her.
He went on to say he didn’t have money to
approach mature girls for sex which is why he resorted to raping a poor, innocent
2 year old girl.
He is now in police custody and will be charged
to court for prosecution, the state’s Assistant Superintendent of police, Chris
Anyanwau lamented the high rate of rape in the area and has advised parents to
be more careful.
I also implore the parents amongst us to make
sure we create an awareness in our children on what this whole Child Sexual
Abuse is all about so they don’t become victims…may God help us all!!
