It’s been very hard for me writing anything about the 234 girls abducted
from the Government College Chibok in Borno. Asides being a mother of which i can’t
even imagine what their parents are going through right now, i attended a
Federal Government Secondary School(FGGC Sagamu)and i know how my mum felt
comfortable sending me there. So for children to be abducted from such a school
is a major reason for concern.
Lets not even forget that just in February, 43 pupils were killed by
Boko Haram at the Federal Government College Buni Yadi in Yobe
State...slaughtered like chickens and goats!!!
Now fast forward to the fact that it’s been almost three weeks and these
kidnapped girls are yet to be found. We have heard all sorts of horrible things
even that they were sold as slave brides across the border for N2,000(God
forbid!)
But what keeps crossing my mind is the Child Bride issue which came up a
few months ago. There was a form of protest all over social media and
physically but sadly it didn’t change anything. Many girls are still being
married off from as young as ages 7 to 14 in the North and despite all the
risks to their lives this act is still being allowed.
What could have given the insurgents the confidence to just snatch these
innocent young girls and force them to be sex slaves and brides? To me, its the
simple fact that they already see these girls as being rightfully wives since
that’s what their culture allows.
My prayer is that these girls get rescued soon but the menace of Boko
Haram needs to be nipped in the bud because asides this kidnap, innocent lives
continue to be lost everyday through bombings and outright killings....#BringBackOurGirls
